Floriography: The Meaning of Flowers
“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”… true!
But, it would not then be a rose.
Cedar's Flower Shop not only knows Colorado flowers, but knows all
flowers and why they matter.
Everyone
loves getting flower delivery at their home or office. Did you ever wonder why and what emotion do they invoke? What thoughts do they inspire? And in the end, what do they mean? Flowers are not just meant to look
beautiful. They are meant to tell
someone what you mean to them.
Floriography: Double Bloom Azaleas symbolize Passion |
The language of flowers is called floriography. It was a Victorian-era method of
communication. Much of the language of
the Victorian- Era has been lost, but it still remains that floriography of
today exists, just not as
extensively.
The floral guide is complicated yet not unwieldy. Each
different flower means something, and each different color of each different
flower means something different. In fact, the list can
include flowers that some people have never heard of, even flowers that wouldn’t
normally be considered flowers - like lemon balm or shamrock.
To make it easy, we will stick with some of
the basics. That way you can easily
understand why purple lilacs or azaleas are good flowers for weddings. Or why buttercups and yellow poppies make
good flowers for events.
Floriography: Yellow Poppies symbolize Success |
A purple
lilac symbolizes the first emotions of love, azaleas are passion. Buttercups symbolize riches while the yellow
poppy means success. To make it easy we can work with some of the basics:
